Communities are a way for archive.storycorps.org users to collect and share their published interviews with a group of people that have a shared interest or something in common; from friends and family to classmates and colleagues to strangers who want to share stories about hiking! Your community acts as a landing page where you and the members of your community can easily share your interviews with others in your community.
Anyone with an archive.storycorps.org account can create a community and invite other archive users to join communities they own as well as join and submit interviews to an existing community. You can customize your community page with an image and description as well as links to your website and social media pages.
There are two settings that differentiate between the different types of communities on archive.storycorps.org:
Moderated and Unmoderated Communities
Moderated communities allow a community owner to control who can join their community and what interviews are included in the community. The community owner can choose to moderate members, interviews, or both. Unmoderated communities allow anyone with an archive.storycorps.org account to join a community and add interviews to it. Public and Private Communities
Public communities are the most common type of community on archive.storycorps.org and feature interviews with privacy settings set to Public or StoryCorps Community. Anyone can browse and listen to interviews posted to a public community regardless of whether or not they have an account on archive.storycorps.org or are a member of the community.
Private communities are one of our advanced features and can include interviews set to any privacy settings including Private interviews. Adding private interviews to a private community allows other members of the community to access these interviews while keeping them private to other archive users and the general public. Additionally, while public communities (and their recordings) are publicly viewable and searchable, private communities are not and can only be accessed by members of the community. Additionally, making a community private will also turn on moderation for members for this community, regardless of which moderation settings you’ve selected. Please note: While you can change a public community to a private community, once a community has been made private, there is no way to change it back to a public community.
