Students will have the option to record via The StoryCorps App or StoryCorps Connect.
There are three options for collecting your students' interviews: keywords, communities, and collections.
KEYWORDS
After students finish their recordings, they will be prompted to enter a descriptive title, summary, and keywords. Keywords act like hashtags, and make it easier for you and others to find stories in the future. In addition to topical keywords like “sisters” and “baseball”, make sure to create one or more keywords specific to your classroom, school, or district. Then, after your students have completed their recordings, go to archive.storycorps.org, search that keyword, and all recordings that have entered that keyword will appear together. For more information on keywords, check out the Keywording 101 handout from the Teacher Toolkit.
Note: Students can add keywords when their interviews are saved as any of the three privacy settings. You will be able to listen your students' recordings listed under the specific chosen keyword on archive.storycorps.org, only if the recording is saved as "Public" or "StoryCorps Community". If they have saved as "Private", they will have to send you a secret link to their interview separately.
COMMUNITIES
Creating a Community for your classroom is another way to collect your students' interviews on archive.storycorps.org and share that community easily with a hyperlink. To create a community, you (the teacher) must go to archive.storycorps.org, login to your StoryCorps account, create the community, and send the link to your students for them to "join" the community. Click here for more detailed instructions on creating a community. After your students record, they will be prompted to "Share with a Community" on the same page to enter keywords.
Note: Students can add their interviews to communities when they are saved as any of the three privacy settings. You will be able to see and listen to your students' recordings in the Community when the student has saved the recording as "Public" or "StoryCorps Community". If they have saved as "Private", they will be able to see and listen to their recording but you (the teacher) will not have access to it. They have to send you a secret link to their interview separately.
