How to add your self-directed recording to an initiative with the StoryCorps App

StoryCorps has several recording initiatives to which participants can add interviews. While previously only Signature Interviews could be added to these initiatives, participants can now add interviews recorded with our self-directed recording tools to these initiatives on their own using the StoryCorps App.

If you are recording an interview using the StoryCorps App, you can opt into an initiative before you publish your interview. You’ll have two opportunities to opt into an initiative before publishing your interview.

Opting into an initiative before recording

While logged in to the StoryCorps App:

1. Select the red Record button located at the bottom center of the screen.
2. Swipe through the different initiatives and select Join under the initiative to which you want to add your interview.

After you’ve selected the initiative you want to join, you can move forward with recording your interview. Once it has been published to archive.storycorps.org, it will be included as part of the initiative you selected.

Opting into an initiative after recording

After recording an interview with the StoryCorps App:

1. Select the blue + button under the I am recording as part of a program section of the Review page.
2. Swipe through the different initiatives and select Join under the initiative to which you want to add your interview.

After you’ve selected the initiative you want to join, you can publish your interview. Once it has been published to archive.storycorps.org, it will be included as part of the initiative you selected.

Adding a published StoryCorps App or Connect interview to an initiative

If you recorded an interview using StoryCorps Connect or have already published your StoryCorps App interview to archive.storycorps.org, you can still add it to an initiative using the StoryCorps App. To add your published interview to an initiative:

1. Log in to your account using the StoryCorps App.
2. Select the 👤 person icon in the bottom right corner to navigate to your profile page in the App.
3. Select Interviews.
4. Select the interview you would like to add to an initiative.
5. Select the three dots in the upper right corner of the interview page and select Edit from the dropdown menu.
6. While on the Edit Interview screen, select the blue + under the I am recording as part of a program section.
7. Swipe through the different initiatives and select Join under the initiative you want to add your interview to.

Once you’ve selected the initiative you want to join, press the red Update button at the bottom of the screen to include your interview as part of the initiative selection you made.
