The way you update your interview's privacy settings depends on if you recorded with the StoryCorps App, StoryCorps Connect or recorded a Signature interview at one of our StoryBooths with a trained StoryCorps facilitator.
- If you recorded a StoryCorps Connect or StoryCorps App interview
- If you recorded a Signature interview (at a StoryBooth with a trained StoryCorps facilitator)
If you recorded a StoryCorps Connect or StoryCorps App interview
You can edit the privacy settings of your published StoryCorps App or StoryCorps Connect interviews on archive.storycorps.org by following the step by step instructions below:
- Log into your account on archive.storycorps.org.
- Select your profile photo/ gray avatar silhouette in the upper right corner of the screen.
- Select My Interviews & Profile.
- Select the interview you'd like to adjust (or click the gear icon when hovering your mouse over the interview to go straight to the interview edit screen.)
- Select the Edit Interview button next to your interview description to access the interview edit screen.
- Select Privacy from the menu on the left side of the screen or scroll down to the Who Can Listen to This Interview? section of the interview edit screen.
- Select your interview's new privacy setting. You can choose from Public, StoryCorps Community, or Private.
- Once you've made your changes, select Save & Archive.
If you recorded a StoryCorps Signature interview (at a StoryBooth with a trained StoryCorps facilitator)
You must claim your interview before you can update your privacy settings. If you haven't already claimed your interview, you can find step by step instructions on how to do so below.
How do I "Claim" my Signature Interview in the Online Archive?
Once you have claimed your interview, you can adjust the interview's privacy settings on archive.storycorps.org by following the step by step instructions below:
- Log into your account on archive.storycorps.org.
- Select your profile photo/ gray avatar silhouette in the upper right corner of the screen.
- Select My Interviews & Profile.
- Select the interview you'd like to adjust.
- Select the Edit Visibility button next to your interview release status and below your interview photo to access the interview edit screen.
- Select your interview's new privacy setting. You can choose from Public, StoryCorps Community, or Private.
- Once you've made your changes, select Update.
You’ve just updated your interview's privacy setting! You'll receive an email from our system confirming your privacy settings have been updated.
Please note: Anyone else who’s claimed the interview (most likely your interview partner) can also update the privacy settings. When this happens, you will receive an email to notify you of the change.
Signature Interviews Locked to Private

While interviews locked to private are not publicly searchable or able to be shared widely, you can still share your interview with friends and family using a secret link. You can learn more about generating and sharing a secret link in the Help Center article below.
Is there a way to share a private interview?
