Once an interview session has begun recording, it will continue to record whether or not any of the participants are currently on the interview recording page. However, it will continue only for a few minutes without any participants. This means that if either participant loses their internet connection or accidentally closes the window, they can rejoin the recording as long as that interruption is relatively brief.
If the user who was invited to the interview is disconnected:
The user who was invited to the interview can rejoin by using the same link that was sent to them by the host to begin the interview. They do not have to join from the same device (so if your computer crashes, you can open the link on your mobile device to rejoin if you prefer).
If the user who is hosting the interview is disconnected:
If the host of the interview is disconnected, they can go to storycorps.org/connect and click “Record Your Story Using StoryCorps Connect” (just like they did to begin the interview) to return to the recording already in progress.
If you decide to start your recording over because of lost internet connection, please keep in mind that StoryCorps Connect allows users to host only one interview at a time. You may need to finish the interview that was interrupted (even if you plan to delete it and start over) in order for StoryCorps Connect to allow you to begin a new interview.
If you wish to edit your recording because of interruptions or downtime caused by a participant becoming disconnected, please remember that StoryCorps' tools do not have the functionality to support editing at this time. You can learn more here.
